Your hair!
I have a grandson who has a lot of beautiful hair at the age of 4, now seven.
Every woman, yes, woman would compliment him on his hair!
His little ego got so puffed up, one could not imagine. One day his Mom got tired of having to take care of it all the time, and she shave it off. The little fellow got down to earth and behaved like a 4 year young person.
What you have attempted is very admirable. We all need to get in touch with having an ego; and not our ego have us.
What a story to share! Your story that is. Congratulations!

Kudos to you, Phil, for taking honest notice of your “crutch”, as well as your willingness to confront it through action. I shaved my head in November after completing chemotherapy for breast cancer – it was a bigger deal than I thought it would be and, like everything else in life, it was an amazing opportunity for growth (no pun intended!!). The big news is I am healed and moving forward with my life – things like hair just don’t seem to matter much to me anymore!!

Also, let me say this, it is good for people to get “caught up” in how special they are. We are ALL special – uniquely gifted and called. False humility looks worse on you than a shaved head. Is it possible to embrace your greatness AND keep your ego in check? Of course it is!! IMHO, a heart of service to others is the key.

Phil – I think it’s a huge deal! Women know this, maybe more than men because hair is such a source of identity for us. When men are lucky enough to keep their hair and have it look great, it’s natural that they consider it part of who they are and how they’re perceived.

Just for the record, I don’t trust men who try to hide the loss of their hair! Be yourself and let it go, fellas!
