Raising Your Credit Score Quickly

Philip Tirone, Raising Your Credit Score Quickly, Macy’s Credit Cards

I always get asked, what is the key to Raising My Credit Score Quickly?    I understand why the “quickly” is such an important part of the question.  See – getting denied credit is embarrassing!  Read my story….

Two weeks ago I was in Macy’s buying my wife a Christmas Gift, I was in line, and there were six people behind me.  The total bill was over $700, and if I applied for a Macy’s Credit Card, I could save $140.  I thought to myself…. “I have perfect credit, and I can save $140 for applying for a Macy’s Credit Card, let’s do it!”

I filled out the application, and I could practically feel the breath of the people behind me, in fact, I could hear the voices in their mind saying… “What is he applying for a Macy’s credit card for?  We are too busy!”  Actually, that is probably what I would have been saying as well.

After waiting for the instant approval, the lady told me, “You have not been instantly approved for our Macy’s Credit Card; you need to wait a few minutes, please have a seat.”

“What!”  I thought to myself.  “How can this be?”  I felt like telling them, “I’ve written a book on credit, I have perfect credit.”  In other words, “Accept me!”  As I was sitting next to the cash register hoping and praying that everything was going to turn out for the best, I could barely face the people that were behind me.  Under their breath I could picture them saying things like, “You deserve to be denied this credit card for holding us up!”

Let me tell you, it was the most stressful and embarrassing five minutes of my 2009!  Now I know why people ask me, what is the key to Raising Your Credit Score Quickly?”  That is what I’ll help you do this year, along with a few other things… let’s make 2010 our best year ever.  If you have a story like this, almost getting denied credit, or getting denied credit?  Share it with me below, we can bond together over our frustrations.

Ok my husband has a Macy’s card. We got it last year for a major purchase at a year with no iterest. We were approved for $3500 for new furniture. We also had room on our revolving account too. We never had more than about $400 charged on it around Christmas time. Never made a late payment to Macy’s. Paid off the rest of the $1800 owed last month so we’d not have to pay the interest for the furniture,
I stress, we NEVER made a late payment, if we had we wouldve had to of paid interest on the furniture and we never did. When we paid off the furniture we also made sure the revolving account was paid off as well.
Well today we were in Macys and I liked a ring, my husband tried to get the no interest for 12 months again. The ring was $600. We were DENIED! Not only were we denied we found out they lowered our revolving account to a $200 credit line! WHY?
I am not leaving out any info. My husband looked at our credit report, we have nothing bad on there, no late payments, nothing has changed for a year, same job, same income…still live in the house we’ve live in for 14 years. WHY?? They approved us for a heck of a lot more than $600 last year.

I have been trying to raise my scores so that I could get a mortgage since September’09. Instead of it going up-it’s been coming down. I have been paying my bills on time, I paid off a car I no longer have and I paid off 2 small bills that had gone to collections. I keep my credit cards(2) to 30% and I was added to a friend’s (2)credit cards. Things were things I was told would increase my score. Still not. What else to do?

    • Philip Tirone says:

Jean – First of all, you are not following our 7 Steps that will help your credit. All you have to do is follow our steps… that easy! The two steps you are not following is Step 2 (that you need between 3-5 credit cards), and Step 6 (that you should never pay a collection without first getting a letter of deletion from the lender). I assume you didn’t since your credit score went down.

Phil, I’ve run into a recent problem, where, even though I don’t miss payments and have a credit score of 730 my interest rates have been raised. Is that even legal? I mean, when I accepted the card and made purchases, I was under the assumption my rates were locked in at least on those purchases. Now I’m paying a whopping 22% or more on some cards. Sure am glad my tax dollars bailed these idiots out! Can you help me?

    • Philip Tirone says:

Jeff – This is very frustrating, as mine have gone up as well. If you do not pay off your bills each month, you MUST, call the “hardship” department of the credit card company and request a reduction. Tell them why and how it is adversly affecting your ability to pay. We are having many of our students get their interest rates reduced by following this process.

After you call, let me know how it goes! Thanks!

  4. Doug says:

Why the story instead of telling how to raise your credit score quickly? What’s the point?

  5. K says:

Did I miss how to raise the score quickly?

  6. Danielle R. says:

I come across so many people who are afraid of being “credit emabarrassed” so they don’t even apply for department store credit cards even if the chance of approval may save them a bundle. It is our responsibility as consumers to know whats on our credit report, why, and how to resolve and issues. This way, we won’t fear the credit fairy! Pay your bills on time, don’t ignore the collection agencies, and above all, be honest in your financial dealings.

  7. C. Redit says:

In today’s running time everyone has a quarry that how to increase the score in the credit report ,but according to me if somebody really wants to increase the score then should pay all the dues and payments on the time.

    • Philip Tirone says:

Keep in mind, it’s not just about paying your bills on time! That is precisly the problem with our credit system!
