How often do you have “those” days? – Personal Growth and Development – Day 19

Today started out great, I was excited to get into the office and ready for an amazing week. Last weekend, was filled with personal growth and development by reading Og’s scroll’s the entire time (per Friday’s post).

When I got into the office, I powered through things for the first few hours, I was rocking it! Then, something happened. It was as if someone slipped something into my drink and instantly, I went from excited to drained. I plowed through the rest of the day, but it was hardly effective. It was exhausting. It was depleting. I was bankrupt of all my positive thoughts and energy.

Any doubt, worry, or concern that I have in my life surfaced this afternoon.

Am I fooling myself… Do I really have what it takes to build a meaningful business around “7 Steps?”
Are my dreams too big?
Am I even as talented as I think I am?
Is the “7 Steps” message really that good?
Am I going to run out of money? Will my company ever turn profitable?
Has my past success been nothing more than a fluke?
Am I going to let my family down? My team down?

I went to lunch and asked myself, what happened? I find that when I can identify the activity that put me into a tail spin, my energy shifts back instantly. The entire lunch I kept asking myself, “What happened that caused the shift? What happened that caused the shift?” This time, I couldn’t identify any specific thing. It was just one of “those” days.

I walked home from lunch reading Og’s scrolls out loud. Unfortunately, nothing changed.

I came home and went to the activity that gives me the most energy – playing as a family. I took all three of them to the floor, got all the pillows off the bed, and as a family we played. Unfortunately, nothing changed.

After the kids went down, I escaped into an episode of 24 with Lily. Unfortunately, nothing changed.

Then I came here, to the computer to type this post. Every part of me didn’t want to be this direct and real, yet I’m committed to being real and never misrepresenting the truth. After 20 minutes of writing, this is the first time I feel energized. I’ve always heard how “the truth shall set you free” and how the “truth can be freeing,” yet, I’ve never understood it the way I’m feeling it at this moment.

My unsophisticated “takeaway” from today is that these days happen, and that is okay. I will have days when I doubt myself as every person alive has those days. In the past, I would hide these feelings as I felt it showed my weakness, now I believe that it shows my humanness which is the greatest gift I can give to those around me. If I can be myself (true, exposed, and unfiltered) with my friends, family and clients, it will give my friends, family, and clients that ability to be themselves with me (true, exposed and unfiltered).

Tomorrow will be great. Tomorrow I will take one step closer to success.

  2. Sue says:

I know what happened to you Philip, because for years it happened to me. Here it is: You can’t control the first thought that come into your head but you can control the rest of them. The Bible says take every thought captive. I am in real estate and I know your program is valuable and you are onto something! Please don’t let doubt and unbelief stop your destiny. You are terrific!!

  3. Test Test says:

You don’t know me, but I’ve worked for you. I think the fact you’re “keeping it real” (ie, I’m NOT a smashing success right now) makes a lot more people able to relate to the content you’re bringing to them.

  4. Andrew says:

Keep up the good fight Phil. There’s reason for everything, you’re success in the making. In your quest, you have touched people lives, helping them accomplishing goals in their life through your knowledge and personality. Isaiah 40:31
